mwcaIndraprastha ("Pianura di mwcqIndra"cite-ref-singh2017-1-0[1] o "Città di Indra") è citata nell'antica mwdgletteratura indiana come una città del Regno di Kuru. È stata anche capitale del Regno guidato dai mweaPandava nell'epico mweqmwegMahābhārata. Sotto la forma mwewPali del nome, mwfaIndapatta, è anche menzionata nei mwfqtesti buddhisti come capitale dei mwfgMahajanapad Kuru. Si pensa spesso che fosse posizionata nella regione dove attualmente sorge mwfwNuova Delhi, in particolare dove si trova il Vecchio Forte (mwgaPurana Qila), sebbene ciò non abbia avuto una conferma definitiva da parte degli studiosi.

La città è talvolta nota come Khandavaprastha o "Foresta Khandavat", nome della regione caratterizzata da foreste sulle sponde del fiume mwhaYamuna secondo il mwhqMahabharata, in cui mwhgKrishna e mwhwArjuna avevano autorizzato la costruzione della città.
